Power Ball

Okay folks - let's hope I win the power ball lottery tomorrow! I played my grand-girls' birthdays. It would be 68 million...enough to share with my quilting buddies ( OR at least buy them all a fat quarter)......LOL

Let it be said "Quilters are a bit touched"

Quilting retreat in 2 days.
I have been anticipating this trip since March. I am excited and nervous. I have fabric for all the"projects" & a few personal projects. I have pack & repacked. I have decided that all of these friends I am about to meet for the first time are "tocuhed" just a little, just like me. We are all checking our clothes & hand carrying our fabric on the planes. 3 glorious days in the NE, 30's overnight and 50's during the day. Carla one of the ladies said in a recent email: " We quilters are such a tactile bunch!" & Sue wrote: Getting very excited here in New Jersey!!! Don’t forget to bring comfy PJs, bathrobe, and slippers....nothing like being cozy and warm while sewing in the wee hours of the morning and late at night!! I believe I am in for a wonderful time...

Lilly's crib colors

I am adding the bumper pad to this post. Now that it's done too!

I just finished the diaper stacker.

I have finished working on the crib bedding set for my newest grand girl due in September. Her Mommy picked these colors. She wanted a quilt from the pattern like I made for grand girl #1.
I will also be making diaper stacker, bumper pads & crib skirt

From the blog Sew Dang Cute
I love her site!

Quilting Baby Shower

My friend Amy K email me last week with this really cool idea......
A baby shower where everybody brings a piece of old clothing with the color pink( yes the Mom to be Brittney is having a girl). The during the shower they cut out quilt blocks. I had some extra fabrics in pinks(why wouldn't I after 2 grand girls and another on the way) that I took in case some one wanted to mix fabric. Well all these wonderful ladies brought their clothes, some skilled and not so skilled at crafty things and made blocks, solid , 4 patch and 9 patch pinned them together and pinned them to the backing material. I won't have too much to fill in and some other girls who couldn't make it the night of the shower will be getting their blocks to Amy and eventually to me so I can work on putting this quilt of friendship and love together. It's late so I will add a picture tomorrow.....
Last thoughts:
1. Baby is due in December so I have plenty of time!
2.Isn't that what all quilters say....
3. I borrowed this from a quilt buddy...Live long enough to be a problem to your kids!

Very Sad Face!

Last Wednesday we went to dinner with our son Josh, DIL Ginny and gbaby#2 Emma. During dinner they announced that they were moving. I thought for a split second, okay they have every year in August, they have been renting trying to find the best location between their jobs and the baby sitter., BUT then they continued their sentence with TO ARKANSAS! I was holding Emma and almost dropped her. They were not joking either and then they said in 2 weeks. By then, I had tears slipping form my eyes with my heart breaking into a thousand tiny pieces of which I am sure I will never fully recover. Why you ask? Ginny has been talking about going back to school to become a dentist, Josh had been the hold out saying he'd never move there but with wanting more for their family in the future, the time had come when they couldn't justify passing up the opportunity. I understand all the logic - I do but I am a selfish grandma. They say they'll be back but I know how much I will be missing in Emma's life and I am sorry to say skyping is NOT the same as holding your grandchild. :'''(

Red White & Blue Picnic Throw

I woke at 4:30 AM today and couldn't get back to sleep. I decided that I would sort through my to do projects. I found the Red White & Blue fabric I cut last year and never put together. So I sewed to my hearts content and ta da the top is done. I can't believe I put that off for so long and it was so quick to finish. It can be used as is BUT I really did want to put a backing on but realized I used that fabric to make the really DARK curtains in my bedroom. It was a great trade off, both the hubby I are sleeping better with our bedroom completely dark. The blocks finished 20" square.

Rag Quilt x 3

Most of you know I have 2 grand daughters and a third one due in September. I made the first rag quilt. Both my daughter and daughter in law wanted it for their girl. So at the beginning the solution was to keep it at my house. :( they weren't happy. I went back to my quilt shop and purchased the same (well almost the same they were out of a few) fabric. So now each of the grand girls has one of their own. Look how simply re-arranging the lay out they look different. They are shown in reverse order for some reason but the top and backs are next to each other.
Yeah! Next maybe I will finish my quilt top of Snowballs In Spring. I just have borders left to do.

Locks of Love - 12 inches donated

Well today was the big day! I went to the salon and donated 12 inches of my hair to "Locks of Love" the organization makes wigs from natural hair for children with hair loss due to medical conditions. I went Ooh La La Beauty Boutique in Summerville, SC they are hosting a Locks Of Love promotion and they did a great job. I am very pleased.

Quilt for Jamie

I made this quilt for my daughter Jamie. She loves it because it's all her favorite colors....but Annabelle (gb#1) uses it everyday because it's kept on the back of the sofa instead of going in her room and getting any of the ones I made for her.

Ugly Fabric Challenge

Well over at Marie Bostwick's site www.mariebostwick.com they are having an Ugly Fabric Challenge. Thanks, Maureen! I received my ugly fabric in the mail yesterday...hmm I must say as much as I love fabric this was really UGLY. So the challenge to everyone that signed up is to
1. Make something with using ALL of the fabric
2. Don't tell what you are making
3. Send pictures to Maureen when you are done, she will post
4. Then everyone gets to vote who did the best job
5. The winner gets all the "pretty" fat quarters that we sent in exchange as their prize.

So no pictures of this project until Maureen post them. I have been up since 4:30 AM trying to figure out what I will do. I have started cutting the UGLY fabric! LOL

Tuesday is the big day....G-Baby#3

It's a girl......

Tomorrow we find out if Grand baby #3 will be a boy or a girl. I am hoping for strong and healthy! Either way I will love this grand child with my whole heart just like the other two.

I never understood what it meant to be a grand mother until I became one.

One of the funniest thing I heard from a friend recently who also became a grand parent in the last year was: "For years people wanted to show me pictures of their grand children and tell me all about them, and all I could think was who cares", and yet here I am just dying to show my pictures and tell my stories. Thanks for sharing JimB.

Spring Update

OK already so I have been really slacking and I didn't make the Easter dress for my grand girls as quickly as I thought I would...but I have made progress yesterday and today. See updated post from the 19th of March and here is the second dress I made for Annabelle. I will be making identical dresses for Emma later today and the rest of the week.

3-19 Spring Update

I will be doing the Easter dresses for my grand girls later this afternoon. Found an instructional blog to show me how to do the reversible dress with any pattern. Pictures to follow. Well uh three weeks later I finished Annabelle's Easter dress. So when Easter is over she can turn the dress inside out and have Spring polka Dot's. this was way easier than I expected and I guess that's why I kept putting it off. Now I need to make a smaller version for Emma

I received my Snowball in Spring blocks from the exchange! All I can say is Lovely and Amazing! They are laid out on the guest bed as I go by I keep re-arranging them, I may have how I want them to be so if I am sure in another hour, I will snap the picture so that they don't get mixed up while I sew them into my planned layout.

I also have 2 pairs of pants to hem by Monday. :0) !

Another quilt completed 3-8-11

As I said in earlier posts I must complete 10 projects before buying new fabric.....so I believe this is number 4 of 10. This one turned out really cute I think. It was fun too! No batting, no binding made from sewing layers of flannel fabric together with 5/8" seems and then clipped to create rag edges.
